Stewardship Commission
Vision from 1 Tim 6:18-19: “Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and should give generously to those in need, always being ready to share with others whatever God has given them. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may take hold of real life.”
The Stewardship Commission seeks to fulfill the mission of St Barnabas by assisting the vestry, clergy, and congregation to fulfill its Christian stewardship. Christian Stewardship may be defined as a philosophy of management, spiritually understood where oneself and one’s personal resources (time, talent, and treasure) are used to glorify God and to accomplish his work in the world.
The primary activity of the Stewardship Commission is to provide oversight of the committees under its leadership. The committees so involved are:
Finance Committee: comprised of the Junior Warden/Chair, Senior Warden, Rector, Deacon/Pledge Secretary, and Treasurer.
Primary activities for the Finance Committee involve maintaining all financial records for the parish, assisting commissions in understanding and meeting budget expectations, determining and monitoring policies for handling of funds and fund raising, and coordinating the reporting of parish financial flows throughout the year, including monthly Vestry reports, the Parochial Report, and the Annual Report for the Annual Meeting.
Administrative Committee: comprised of the Rector/Chair, Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Deacons, Treasurer, Vestry Clerk, and Parish Secretary.
Primary activities for the Administrative Committee involve managing parish administrative requirements such as calendar coordination and communication, reviewing current issues within the sphere of parish life, and supporting the Vestry through making recommendations on items presented for committee consideration.
